Crucible and Sagger

A crucible is a ceramic pot use to hold metal for melting in a furnace. This is a high quality, industrial grade crucible used by the commercial foundry industry.

A crucible is needed to withstand the extreme temperatures encountered in melting metals. The crucible material must have a much higher melting point than that of the metal being melted and it must have good strength even when white hot.

High-temperature silicon carbide crucible is an ideal kiln furniture for industrial furnaces, suitable for sintering and smelting of various products, and is widely used in chemical, petroleum, environmental protection and other fields. Silicon carbide is the main chemical component of silicon carbide germanium, which has high hardness characteristics. The hardness of silicon carbide crucible is between corundum and diamond, its mechanical strength is higher than that of corundum, with high heat transfer rate, so it can save much energy.

RBSiC/SISIC crucible and sagger is a deep basin ceramic vessel. Because it is superior to glassware in terms of heat resistance, it is well used when the solid is heated by the fire. Sagger is one of the important kiln furniture for burning porcelain. All kinds of porcelains must be put into saggers first and then into the kiln for roasting.

Silicon carbide melting crucible is the main parts of the chemical instruments, it is one container that can be used for melting, purification, heating and reaction. So many models and sizes are included; there is no limit from production, quantity or materials.

Silicon carbide melting crucible is a deep bowl shape ceramic containers which is widely used in metallurgy industry. When solids are heated by big fire, there must be a proper container. It is necessary to use a crucible while heating because it can withstand higher temperature than glassware and also ensure the purity from pollution. The silicon carbide melting crucible can not be overfilled by the molten contents cause the heated materials may be boiled and spraying out. Otherwise, it is also important to keep the air freely circulating for possible oxidation reactions.

Notice:
1. Keep it dry and clean. Need to be heated to 500℃ slowly before using. Store all crucibles in a dry area. Moisture can cause a crucible to crack on heating. If it has been in storage for a while it is best to repeat the tempering. Silicon carbide crucibles are the least likely type to absorb water in storage and typically don’t need to be tempered before use. It is a good idea to fire a new crucible to a red heat prior to its first use to drive off and harden factory coatings and binders.
2. Place the materials in a silicon carbide melting crucible according to its volume and keep a proper space to avoid thermal expansion fractures. The material should be placed into the crucible VERY loosely. NEVER “pack” a crucible, as the material will expand on heating and can crack the ceramic. Once this material has melted into a “heel”, carefully load more material into the puddle for melting. (WARNING: If ANY moisture is present on the new material a steam EXPLOSION will occur). Once again, don’t tightly pack in the metal. Keep feeding the material into the melt until the required quantity has been melted.
3. All crucibles should be handled with properly fitting tongs (lifting tool). Improper tongs can cause damage or complete failure of a crucible at the worst possible time.
4. Avoid the strong oxidized fire burning directly onto the crucible. It will shorten the using time because of the material oxidation.
5. Do not place the heated silicon carbide melting crucible on a cold metal or a wooden surface immediately. A sudden cold will lead to cracks or break and a wooden surface may cause a fire. Please leave it on a refractory brick or plate and let it cool down naturally.
